This film made a whole generation of kids want to be palaeontologists, which counts for a lot in my book. As a monster movie it's close to perfect. As science, it's a mix of the clever and the impossible. Getting dinosaur DNA from a mosquito trapped in amber is a brilliant idea, but DNA breaks down over time, and it simply doesn't survive for tens of millions of years. And (I can't help myself here) most of the star dinosaurs, including T. rex, actually lived in the Cretaceous, not the Jurassic! None of that really matters, though, because the real point of the film is Ian Malcolm's warning: just because scientists can do something doesn't mean they should. With gene editing now very much a reality, that message has aged well.
