Blade Runner is slow, and I understand why some people find it boring. But I appreciate it more every time I watch it. The replicants aren't metal robots - they're engineered people, which is a far more interesting idea (and probably a more realistic one). And the test used to catch them is essentially a Turing test for empathy, which makes this a perfect film to watch alongside Ex Machina. How do you prove someone is human? How do you prove YOU are? The "enhance" scene with the photograph is pure fantasy, of course - you can't pull detail out of a photo that the camera never captured. But a future run by corporations, with a ruined environment and blurred lines between people and machines? That looks less like fiction every year.
